Spartina 449 – Fall & Winter 2018

We love when Spartina 449 releases their new patterns and we especially love the stories behind the pattern inspirations.   Below you can read about the pattern stories but first lets look at the Free Gift with Purchase!  Left to manage her father’s plantations near Beaufort in 1738, Eliza Lucas Pinckney put her love of botany to work in order to save the family farm. Wise enough to see that the rising market for textiles also created a need for dyes, she cultivated high-grade, high-demand indigo, which ignited the historic “Indigo Bonanza” for the Carolina economy.  Her true blue determination—and feminine know-how—runs through our Eliza houndstooth pattern. Classic checks line up like perfectly planted row crops, but trailblazing indigo paths make their mark on this traditional hunting pattern. It’s Spartina’s way of honoring Eliza’s herstory in history.  Eliza Floral is a coordinating, textured woven fabric with plush embroidery and tints of bright pink. Thoughtfully appointed, its contrasting geometric cadence pays homage to the Rhett House Inn: white Greek columns flanking gib doors that open wide to welcome sweet Southern breezes and visitors like you. Lighting. Though it often can be overlooked, lighting is a key element of a porch, particularly if you like to sit and read in the evening.  Lighting helps create a warm ambiance in any space and there are several ways to add light to your outdoor space.    Get creative with your lighting, if you already have a chandelier or sconces add some candles (we even have flame-less candles) or lanterns to give your outdoor space a room-like feel.  3. An Outdoor Rug.  Make your porch feel like a room with an outdoor rug. A patterned rug layered on the floor helps unify the furnishings and color scheme, while adding a layer of texture and warmth to the space.  We have a great selection of outdoor rugs that will hold up to the outdoor elements without a problem – fade resistant, easy to clean, and great styles and colors. A rug is something nice to purchase new,...
